Introducerea tratamentului antiretroviral imediat după naştere poate suprima nivelele ARN-ului şi
interfera cu diagnosticul infecţiei .

Testul este optimizat doar pentru cuantificarea viremiei în infecţia HIV-1 determinată de grupul M,
subtipurile A-H şi nu prezintă acurateţe în detectarea infecţiei cauzată de HIV-1 grupurile N şi O,
precum şi a infecţiei HIV-2.
Un rezultat negativ nu indică în mod necesar absenţa replicării virale .
